Immersive VR Training for Safer, Smarter Nursing Education

The Challenge

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust recognised the growing limitations of traditional nursing training and turned to SPG’s team to provide a better solution:

  • Manual training methods were constrained by inconsistent delivery, limited practice opportunities, and the inefficient use of time and clinical staff.

  • More critically, these models often relied on symptom presentation for assessment—posing risks to both learners and patients.

  • The Trust needed a safe, scalable, and repeatable solution that could modernise clinical education and reduce dependency on live environments.

Our Approach

SPG partnered with the Trust to design and deliver a fully immersive Virtual Reality (VR) learning tool tailored for nursing staff. Leveraging off-the-shelf VR technology, our team developed:

  • A high-fidelity simulation platform that replicated complex clinical scenarios in a non-clinical environment.

  • We optimised system performance and crafted an intuitive user interface to ensure accessibility for all levels of users.

  • Rapid onboarding and widespread adoption was made possible through use of the solution

The Results

🟣  Increased access to practice opportunities - anytime, anywhere, without real-world risks.

🟣 Unlimited repeatability of clinical scenarios for skill refinement.

🟣 Immediate feedback loops to accelerate learning and reduce errors.

🟣 Enhanced consistency in training delivery across nursing cohorts.

🟣 Significant cost savings through reduced reliance on live staff and physical resources.
